Strata House

Strata House is a full home renovation that reimagines an aging residence through a contemporary lens of texture, layering, and spatial openness. The design carefully transforms the existing home while working within its original structural constraints, including maintaining the existing 8-foot ceiling heights throughout.

Rather than altering the structure, the design introduces architectural strategies that create a perceived sense of height and openness. Carefully detailed ceiling treatments, sculptural lighting, and strong focal moments guide the eye upward and through the space, enhancing the overall spatial experience.

The project takes its name from the concept of material stratification, where layers of textures and finishes create depth and richness throughout the home. Natural wood millwork, sculptural stone surfaces, fluted panels, and soft metallic accents are carefully composed to bring warmth and visual interest while maintaining a clean and cohesive palette.

Central living spaces were reconfigured to strengthen connections between rooms, allowing light and views to flow through the home. Custom millwork elements help define spaces while maintaining visual continuity—from integrated wine storage and shelving features to sculptural fireplace walls and layered feature panels.

Throughout the home, built-in elements and carefully detailed joinery create moments of architectural focus while maintaining a calm and cohesive environment.

Bathrooms continue the language of material layering, pairing sculptural fixtures with textured tile and warm brass accents to create spaces that feel both refined and serene.

Strata House demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform an existing home without expanding its footprint—using material richness, architectural detailing, and spatial continuity to create a modern environment that feels open, warm, and deeply connected.
