Lake House

Designed for a retired couple seeking a slower pace of life, the Lake House is a compact retreat that embraces simplicity, light, and connection to its surroundings. Located steps from the shoreline in Wasaga Beach, the home is carefully shaped to maximize its modest footprint.

The architectural form is intentionally restrained. A clean gabled volume creates a timeless silhouette while allowing the interior spaces to feel generous and light-filled. The design takes advantage of every inch permitted within the property’s zoning limits, and the project successfully proceeded through the Committee of Adjustment process to obtain a minor variance that enabled the home to fully realize its spatial potential.

Large windows at the front of the house frame views toward the water, bringing natural light deep into the interior while reinforcing the home’s connection to the lakeside landscape. Privacy is achieved through a screened garden courtyard along the side of the house — a quiet outdoor room that filters views and light while creating a sense of retreat from neighboring properties.

Inside, the compact footprint is balanced by an open and airy layout that allows spaces to serve multiple functions throughout the day. The stair is strategically tucked toward the rear of the home, freeing the main living areas to flow together uninterrupted. This approach creates a flexible interior environment where living, dining, and gathering spaces adapt easily to the rhythms of everyday life.

The result is a home that feels both efficient and expansive — a carefully crafted lake retreat designed for comfort, simplicity, and the quiet enjoyment of the surrounding landscape.
